Any person who keeps up with current events knows that the pro-life fight is the modern-day equivalent of David vs Goliath—with Goliath being Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses, Hollywood, news media, social media, and the current pro-abortion majorities in our federal government. It can be difficult to feel like you are making a difference when nearly every major institution in the United States falsely attacks you as “anti-woman” (an insult which we know to be untrue). So, what can people in the pro-life movement do to win the fight against abortion?
The answer? PROLIFERATE. That is, increase our numbers, so more can add to our efforts until abortion is abolished. We can proliferate with three steps that I learned from a speech given by David Bereit, the Founder and former CEO of 40 Days for Life, at Students for Life's National Leaders Collective in Washington, D.C.
Step One: START
In order to be effective in our efforts against abortion, we must begin by writing down our answers to these questions:
Why are you getting involved in this fight? Perhaps you, or someone close to you, have been impacted by abortion. Perhaps you experienced heartbreak while watching a video about abortion. Or perhaps you witnessed the miracle of seeing your own child in the womb. Whatever your “why” may be, write it down so you can always remember your purpose for joining this movement.
What are you hoping to achieve? Write down your goals so you can track your progress.
How are you going to accomplish your “what?” Again, write this down.
Who do you need to bring in to help? Maybe you get neighbors and friends from church involved. Maybe you enlist the help of or get involved with organizations like Pro-Life Utah, Students for Life of America/Students for Life Action, Live Action, And Then There Were None, or any of the numerous pro-life organizations* out there. Personally, I work very closely with Pro-Life Utah, Students for Life Action, Live Action, and am beginning to work more with And Then There Were None. Get involved with as many pro-life groups as you can to expand your influence. Make a list of those who are needed to help you accomplish your pro-life goals and reach out to them! They are ready to assist you. Make sure to also make a list of the characteristics that you are looking for when contemplating your “who.”

Where will you focus your efforts? Are you providing financial assistance to women in need? Sidewalk counseling outside of abortion facilities to lovingly take business away from them? Write this down, too.
Set a reasonable time frame for when you will accomplish your goal, and make sure to write it down.
Step Two: GROW
After writing down your answers to the previous questions, you have to go to work to grow your numbers. So, how do you go about doing that?
Examine your answer to the question of “who,” then find people that match it!
KNOW people, CONNECT with them, DIRECT them:
Get to know and connect with the people that match your “who,” then direct them towards success.
Know your audience, and how to reach them.
Example: Are you trying to persuade the younger generations to join the pro-life fight? If so, apps like Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok may be most effective. Make sure you pick the right channels to use.
Don’t get down on yourself. Always remember that if you don’t have great success one day, the next day can always be better.
Step Three: MULTIPLY
There are four levels of activism: Concerned, Active, Leader, and 100x-er. In your own pro-life journey, it’s important to take things one step at a time and increase your involvement and activism as you grow in your knowledge and confidence.
One starts by being concerned about the issue of abortion. Perhaps they became concerned because of the heartbreak that we talked about earlier, or for another reason. This is the first step towards being a 100x-er.
You must take people from that heartbreak to activism. Guide them from the Concerned level to the Active Level. Perhaps you are already involved with a pro-life organization—help them join it. Maybe you attend town halls to talk about the pro-life issue with your elected officials—invite them to join you. Get people involved.
Mentor people so they can move from being activists to being LEADERS. Help them become prepared to become the President of your campus pro-life club, or to lobby for pro-life legislation. Help them develop the attributes that they need to help lead the fight.
As leaders, we must help move other leaders from the Leader level to having a hundred-fold impact. Guide them in not only running their own pro-life group, but helping others get involved and started on the journey to becoming 100x-ers—teach them how to be a mentor to other people. Help them grow their influence so others may do the same. By mentoring people towards becoming 100x-ers, the pro-life movement can grow and save more and more lives until abortion is abolished.
The pro-life movement is working to not only make abortion illegal, but also make it unthinkable. We desire to change modern culture so women are empowered to choose life for their children and have the support that will encourage them to do so. We are working to build a culture that respects and loves human life at all stages.
As pro-lifers, if we truly desire to make abortion both illegal and unthinkable, we must become hero-makers. Don’t get involved in the fight against abortion because you want to be a hero. Rather, get involved in this fight because you want to build heroes who will fight alongside you to end abortion. We must work tirelessly to proliferate our movement. Abortion can be abolished in our lifetimes, and it will if we work tirelessly to mold 100x-ers.
Pro-Life Utah defends unborn children and promotes a culture of life through educational posts, legislative action, community outreach, and aid to women who are pregnant and don’t know what to do.
