SB 65 Abortion Amendments (Removal of the reporting requirement for rape)
Worth 1 point on the scorecard. Pro-Life Utah supported a “nay” vote. This bill failed in committee
Bill Sponsor: Rep. Jennifer Dailey-Provost (D)
This bill would have removed provisions requiring a physician to verify a report has been made to law enforcement before the physician performs an abortion on an adult woman who is pregnant as a result of rape or incest. Where exceptions abortion restrictions exist, they must be strictly regulated. This amendment would have created a loophole that would certainly be abused in order to obtain late term abortions in our state. If issues surrounding the reporting of rape exist in our current legal system, those issues should be addressed by improving the rape reporting process and increasing resources to victims of rape. These issues are not solved by making it easier to get an abortion.

**Please note that this vote was a vote to “table” the bill, which in effect killed the bill without a committee vote. A “yea” vote for the motion to table was desired in this situation**
