Planned Parenthood Association of Utah touts itself as critical for women's healthcare. A look at their *annual reports, however, reveals that some of the services they champion are on the decline. One "service," however, has increased dramatically:
In 2009 (the earliest recorded year for this data), PPAU performed 11,385 pap smears.
In 2017, they performed 3,394 pap smears.
This is a decrease of 34.5%
Breast/ Testicular Exams
In 2012 (the earliest recorded year for this data), PPAU performed a total of 34,911 breast and testicular exams.
In 2017, they performed a total of 11,912 breast and testicular exams.
This is a decrease of 34%
In 2011 (they began doing abortions the year before), PPAU did 245 abortions.
In 2017, they did 1,957 abortions.
This is an increase of 798%.
The dramatic uptick in abortions committed at PPAU is jarring but not shocking. Although they try to downplay it, abortion is their largest revenue-generating service. In the words of Abby Johnson, former Texas Planned Parenthood manager, "everything they do is simply leading back to abortion. Don't be fooled by the smoke and mirrors."
The good news is that Utah's abortion rate is at a historic low. And even as abortion numbers continue to fall nationwide, Planned Parenthood (both in Utah and in other states) continues to increase its market share. They truly are an abortion business.
*This article references all the annual reports of PPAU that are available online . Some of the reports from 2009-present omitted certain services (2013 didn't give any numbers on services), so we utilized all the information that we could find.
